December 2014
President’s Message
Special Note: Our next meeting will
be on December 17 – a date change due to the holiday.
Our November
speakers Chris Lynch, president of Zing Products, and Captain Mel True did a
great job telling us about their products. Captain True recommends contacting
him in June for July big bass trips in and around Block Island.
On Monday,
November 17, Ken Whiting and I attended the legislative committee meeting for
the Rhode Island Surfcasters, as affiliated club delegates. The agenda
consisted of the election of officers; updates on fisheries issues, e.g., the
Striped Bass Addendum IV; RISAA Foundation’s Recreational Fishing Advancement
Grant; the 2015 New England Recreational Fishing Symposium; Magnuson and
Stevens reauthorization; and proposals for 2015 legislative issues. Ken and I
learned some interesting things at this meeting.
Here we are
in December! What else could I be asking for but your dues? Please get your
dues in as early as possible to make it easy on both our treasurer Bill Dulude
and our membership chairman Paul Stankus. These two guys do a great job and a
lot of work with the club’s best interests at heart. Don’t forget we have 20
slots left over for the five-year membership cards at a cost of $125, with a
savings to you of $25. You can find the applications for renewal or five-year
membership under the “Join” tab on our website at www.capecodsalties.org.
The second
important matter is registration for our Annual Awards Banquet on March 7 at
the Doubletree in Hyannis and raffle prizes for that banquet. Please get your
registrations for the banquet in, and remember there is a special prize for the
first twenty-five returns!
The
mentoring program got off to a good start, with seven members showing interest.
Don’t forget – if you are interested in mentoring or being mentored, please
contact me at your earliest convenience.
At the
December meeting our annual elections will also be held. If anyone is
interested in having his or her name put on the ballot, contact Barry Sullivan,
Ken Whiting, or Joe Apiscopa. Nominations can also be made from the floor at
the December 17 meeting. Please note
the date change, as a result of the holiday.
On a side
note, our good friend Tony Stetzko is in the hospital, recently coming off a
three-week induced coma due to pneumonia, and he has some serious financial
issues. If you are interested in helping with his rising medical costs, you can
donate online at gofundme.com/hihqog or the “Get Well Tony Stetzko” Facebook
page.

for all our yearly events can be found on our website, www.capecodsalties.org.
Thanks, and
hook ‘em up!

breaking point test results. Who knew that breaking point varies with color?
November’s Speaker
November’s Speaker
Chris Lynch, president of Zing Products, reviewed the history and product line of his company. Zing offers a wide range of rigs and jigs.
A feature product, the Zingamajig, was highlighted. Chris ended the presentation with a quiz, which resulted in a zing product prize for each correct answer.
Captain Mel True of Fishnet Charters followed with slides and videos of fish falling for Zing Products as well as other charter results from Striper and Tautog outings.
