Here it is November 2 and Joe Giannetti and some of the other
guys are still getting bass on eels in the canal!
The November meeting speaker will be Chris Lynch of Zing
Products talking about their fishing products. Please note that the November
meeting date is November 12, due to the holiday.
On October 31 it looks like the Atlantic States Marine
Fisheries Commission voted to support the 25% cut in striped bass fishing.
However, they left the length at 28” and recreational fishermen can only take
one fish. This follows what we requested and voted for. The club thanks all of
you who wrote letters or attended any of these hearings.
The Martha’s Vineyard Fishing Derby just recently ended with
a couple of interesting observations. They had the most bonito weighed in since
1994, and only 288 bass were weighed in. That goes along with the need for the
cut in striped bass fishing, as discussed above.
As discussed last month, the club in going to introduce a
mentoring program. Anyone interested in being a mentor or being mentored should
contact me ASAP so we can get those assignments out. Between now and the spring
run, the mentoring could be checking equipment, rods, reels, etc. and also
talking about different locations. With the Rhode Island show, the Mass Bass show,
and the one in Worcester, it would be a great opportunity for mentors and
mentees to spend some quality time together regarding fishing.
The recent October Fish Dinner was very well attended, with
82 present. As usual, a small group of members did a great job on the meal.
As previously mentioned, the Annual Awards Banquet will be
held on March 7 at the Doubletree in Hyannis, at $60.00 per couple. The
application will be on the website. The first 25 couples to respond will get a
mystery prize! The Doubletree is again offering a reduced rate of $89 for any
members wishing to stay over. This is our only fundraiser of the year, and it
allows us to give out several scholarships and to support important causes,
including the recent $1,000 to the shark-tagging program.
I am going to have the plug bucket at the November 12th
meeting, and it’s time to start trying to get auction prizes for the March 7
event.
If you have a chance, send a card to Dick Powell, who is
recovering from heart surgery at the Brigham.
Thanks, and hook ‘em up!
