We started out the year 2014
by being snowed out on our January meeting. Our speaker, Chris Lynch
from
Zing Products, was rescheduled for the September 24th meeting. Our February 26th meeting will feature Kimberly Damon-Randall from NOAA speaking on the restoration of herring runs.

It’s time to get your calendars out! Let’s hope you have already marked our annual Awards Banquet, on Saturday, March 8, at the Doubletree by Hilton in Hyannis. A reservation form is on the website at capecodsalties.org. Be sure to note the reduced rate for Salties at the DoubleTree on the night of the banquet – reduced from $129.00 to $89.00 plus tax. Only a few people get awards, but we all enjoy the camaraderie and the raffle, which is our major fundraiser. Hope to see you there!
Don’t forget to try to round up some prizes for this fundraiser/banquet. Also, remember to bring in a new plug for the plug bucket to the February meeting -- that will be a great prize! The raffle prizes for the banquet have been slow in coming in. Please take time to pick up a gift certificate and bring it to the February meeting or call me anytime for a pickup.
The Salties have been invited to participate as volunteers in the Sportfish Angler Data Collection Team (SADCT) program sponsored by the Division of Marine Fisheries. They are expanding their collection of fish scale samples to include black sea bass, fluke, and scup, along with striped bass. Marine Fisheries will provide fish scaling envelopes and detailed instructions. We will discuss this at the February meeting. You can contact them on your own by emailing Jennifer Thomson at Jennifer.S.Thomson@state.ma.us. These people will have a booth at most of the fishing shows in March and April.
Membership, membership, membership! So far 15 people have taken advantage of the five-year membership and saved themselves $25.00. We have asked you to print out your renewal for dues online (under “Join” on our website) and send in your dues. Please get your dues in as soon as possible so our membership chair and treasurer can get on with their lives!
Ken Whiting will have a carved false albacore to be auctioned off at the March 8 Awards Banquet. You won’t want to miss the opportunity to purchase this! If you cannot attend, you can send me a sealed bid with your maximum price, and the bid will be opened that night.
On a sad note, Samuel J. Arsenault passed on January 9, 2014 at his home in Dennisport. Sam was one of the original Cape Cod Salties and signed the corporation papers on June 13, 1962. He will be missed by his family and friends.
Watch for details on the Wives & Sweethearts Appreciation Night, scheduled for Friday, April 4, at Alberto’s!
Thanks, and hook ‘em up!
Jack
P.S. The first non-officer of the club who emails me that he or she read the above message will be awarded a signed Bob Davies plug!
