June 2019 President’s Message

The Hook, Line, and Eel Learn to Fish event sponsored by Riverview Bait and Tackle, with help from the CC Salties, will be held on Monday, July 1, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the fishing dock at Bass River Beach. The proceeds from this event will be donated to the CC Salties Foundation.  Volunteers are needed to sign up to help, arriving at 4:30. You can sign up via email at rrdscrs@gmail or on a sign-up sheet at the meeting on the 26th of June.

Another upcoming event is with the Department of Marine Fisheries and the Town of Yarmouth, with Kimberly Fine in charge. It’s the fourth annual youth fishing clinic on Tuesday, August 13, at the Bass River Fishing Pier, and I told Kim the Salties would be happy to help out! MarineFisheries biologists will be joined by Yarmouth’s DNR and Parks and Recreation personnel to teach basic saltwater angling skills. This is a FREE event for youth from 7 to 15 years old! There are two shifts -’ one from 10-noon, and the second from 12:30-2:30. Fishing equipment and bait will be provided. You can sign up to volunteer at the June 26 meeting.

Needless to say, the more people who sign up for these events, the easier it is for everyone. Thanks in advance.

The club thanks Jay Serjian and Steve Israelian for the great job they did on the Annual Wives & Sweethearts Appreciation Dinner. The gift certificates and the lovely begonias were much appreciated by the recipients. The apparent camaraderie and laughter at the tables was encouraging for all the club officers.

Dan McKiernan from the DMF contacted us about the new Striped Bass Conservation license plate. Publicity will begin in July, but you can get the application online and at the DMF offices. 750 reservations are needed for the plates to be made. Dan gave us advanced notice because the first 750 applicants will be given a low number (ranging from 101-850).

Last week 12 Salties went out on two trips for the Bob Luce Memorial Tournament, and Capt. Jim put the guys on over 100 striped bass combined on Monday and Wednesday. The fish averaged 30”, and the current leaderboard shows Dick Kelley first, John Sorcenelli second, and Bill Cottle third. If you or your friends and family are going to book a trip this summer, you can’t beat a trip with Capt. Jim and Billy on the Striper, both price-wise and fish-wise.

In closing, the Cape Cod Salties Foundation will hold a meeting after the regular meeting on June 26 to discuss the receipt by DMF of a Federal Grant to help fund our initial deployment of material to the Yarmouth Tire Reef site in Nantucket Sound, and any action that we may need to take.

Thanks, and Smile with Amazon!
